(More customer reviews)With the exception of the gravity powered dispenser, the 6 cup Hamilton Beach Brewstation is the worst design for a coffee maker that I have ever seen. It is supposed to be a 6 cup coffee maker and in reality it only makes 3 1/2 -8oz cups. When is the last time anyone saw an 8 oz cup, and other than those little espresso cups, or a kiddie tea set, I don't think I have ever seen a 2 1/12 oz standard cup!! Most people use some sort of mug for coffee, and they will get only about 2 "cups" of coffee out of this machine. As a cook, I know that a cup equals 8 oz, so when something is called a 6 cup coffee maker, I expect it to provide 48 oz of coffee in a single brew, not 28 oz. The fact that "6 cup" did not refer to 6 of the standard 8 oz cup was not advertised on the box.
In addition, the coffee tank is full of protrusions that make it impossible and aggravating to clean. The water tank is too narrow to pour water into accurately without hitting the heating plate that sticks up in the middle of it and splashing water all over the place. I am using a funnel to avoid this problem. The pipe that transfers the hot water from the water tank to the coffee is hinged and must be turned away from over the coffee basket each time the grounds basket or the coffee tank is accessed. How long is that going to work before it breaks. Finally, the instructions that come with this coffee maker are dismal. A separate, apparently afterthought, sheet of instructions for pouring the water in the water tank was included, probably after a lot of complaints. I only gave it one star because it does make coffee, there is no carafe to break, and the dispenser does work great. It's hard to beat gravity.
