(More customer reviews)Yes, this is TOO SMALL for a betta (I don't know about goldfish), but it is not as bad as many of the little betta bowls and containers you see. I agree that you should get as big of a bowl/tank as you can, but 5 or 10+ gallons is not an absolute necessity. A well-taken-care-of bowl of 1 or 2 gallons is healthier treatment than many bettas receive at the pet store.
I have 6 bettas all in separate 2 gallon bowls and they are happy and healthy. Basically, I don't want to discourage people from rescuing a fish because some people tell them they must have a 10 gallon tank with a filter!
Keeping a bowl clean, warm, and bettas away so they cannot see each other all the time will most likely keep your fish with you for a long time.
