(More customer reviews)Nice unit, smartly designed and easy to use. I'm primarily making beef jerky, and trying different recipes is a lot of fun. I got unit for Christmas and have made 5 batches of jerky. Loved doing it and the jerky was I have to admit is very good.

That last batch of jerky was where my problem started, about an hour before the jerky was finished the dehydrator started completely losing power. Fan would shut off, the LEDs went off, but a rap on the side would get it to run for a while. I had to do this a couple of times got that batch of jerky finished.
I called Kitchen Resources (the number on the enclosed warranty information) and told them what was happening. They told me they would send me a new base (it was all I needed the rest is trays, lid, etc., no moving parts). Well a few days later a whole new units shows up, I swapped out the base units, (I really fought the urge to take additional trays). Retaped the box, used the supplied prepaid UPS shipping label and sent it back.

Kitchen Resources could not have made this any easier. With a 12 year warranty that is truely honored. Kitchen Resources should be proud of themselves and their products!

(More customer reviews)I searched through a large selection of air filters trying to optimize price, utility, reputation, and ease of use (I don't have time to replace some components every 6 months and other components every 3 months, etc). I decided on the Austin Air Healthmate Air Purifier. From there, it was a search for a reasonable retailer. Due to price (along with free shipping) and Amazon backing, I chose All Seasons Health.
The product arrived quickly and in perfect condition--I would definitely order other products through this retailer.
I pulled the Healthmate out of the box and after reading the instructions, I plugged it in and away it went (yep, that was it). I was having a problem with new carpet installation (an abundance of VOC's causing watering eyes, sore throat, and dizziness); the difference in just two days was remarkable and noticed by others. The Healthmate has three settings, low, medium, and high. The output on high is amazing and has an added benefit of dramatically increasing airflow in the room. The low setting is quiet enough to sit next to the machine and watch a movie without difficulty.
According to the instructions, in about four to five years I will have to replace the filter inside and from a cursory review of the instructions, it should be much simpler than replacing my water filter.
I will add further comments closer to allergy season.

(More customer reviews)We got this filter for a turtle tank. Two red-eared-sliders. They make a big mess. It's a 40 gallon aquarium filled about half way. So this filter is way oversized. However, all the smaller mechanisms we used didn't do the job.
This one seems to work fine. It keeps the water much cleaner than any others we have tried. A quick rinse of the filter cover every few days keeps it in top shape. It's fairly quiet too. That's important as it's in my daughter's bedroom.

The Bodum Press is a refinement of the cowboy coffee brewing method, minus the campfire & straining it thru a sock. In My world, there is no such thing as "too Strong" for coffee. There IS, however, too bitter & too acidy. The press does what perking, dripping and steaming ground coffee cannot do: produce a stout, yet smooth cup of coffee - just like the stuff made around decades of my campfires.
Model Brazil, made in Denmark by a Swiss Company & called a French Press. No wonder the confusion over exactly how many cups this actually makes. The Euro-instructions for the press say 4 oz. per cup, but even my fine Bavarian China cups (from when I lived in Munich) are 6 ounces.
Just look at it this way: It holds 32 ounces of water.
The instructions on your roast coffee container usually say to use 1 TBSP per 6 ounces of water (NOT 4 ounces & NOT 8 ounces). Again, in MY world, 32 ozs. makes about 2 cups of coffee.
I toss in 6 or more scoops of ground coffee, pour in hot water & wait the obligatory 4 minutes. The result is a smooth coffee that you can drink by the quart without that nasty heartburn/reflux side effect.
It's ideal for work, where the office sissies are afraid of offending anyone with REAL coffee, so they make it weak. I simply step up to the hot water spigot & take the Press to my desk.
Now, you, too, can have coffee the way you like it at work without having to cover up someone's botched brew with that foo-foo Vanilla, Hazelnut, Irish Cream or other phoney-flavored faux creamers.
Cleanup? Swirl around some soapy water, & dump the grounds down the sink - just be sure to have the water blasting & the garbage disposal running, so as to not plug up the sink trap.
Even if you already have the coffee-brewing apparatus of your dreams, buy the Bodum 32 oz. model. You won't be disappointed.

(More customer reviews)Once you have this system in your RV you can't imagine ever traveling without it! I installed it in a newer travel trailer which has always had objectionable plastic or other tastes present in the water. These tastes were caused by 3 things:
1. The fresh water tank and 98% of the plumbing system are plastic.
2. I sanitize the water system annually using diluted beach or other chemicals.
3. Many RV parks have water with high mineral and sulfur content.
This Culligan system looks beautiful and works great in our travel trailer. It has completely eliminated ALL tastes in our drinking and cooking water. Not only that, it removes threats to our health from contaminants lurking in the water systems of the RV parks and campgrounds we visit.
With the proper tools, installation was a snap. The most obvious installation consideration is if your RV sink lacks an appropriate mounting hole, you'll need to drill one yourself. I had to do this through a fiberglass sink and wooden counter-top. No problem.
I've read reviews elsewhere which complain about low water flow from this particular filter system. We have a similar water filter system made by GE in our home and it's no different. These systems are not designed for high flow. The flow is plenty adequate for filling up a glasses of water, a coffee pot, a cooking pan, etc. After all, you won't be using this filtered water to shower under!
In short: Two thumbs up!

Calling it a filter is a little misleading, as it really doesn't filter the air or the water. It really works as a tall supported sponge, to hold water within it and draw air through it. The air that is forced through the filter (which is essentially sitting in a tray of water) becomes saturated with the water, thus adding humidity to the air in your house.
This is an aftermarket filter, since Kenmore is the manufacturer of the humidifier.
There are a few minor distinctions between the "Sears" filter and this aftermarket filter, but nothing that would keep me from buying it. For example, the "Kenmore" brand filter has clips or tape strips to keep the filter in a circle shape, when it is in the humidifier. The presumption being that the soggy filter might slump over or something. No worries. The filter is reinforced with suitable materials to keep it from losing its shape.
Bottom line here, this filter does the job, is more readily available and is cheaper than the "name brand" that one might consider otherwise.
** More information than what you really want**
Do you know what "Legionnaires Disease" is? If you did everything wrong in the use of a humidifier, this could be the result. Ever leave a wet sponge in a sink for too long? It gets nasty. It can hold lots of bacteria and odor. Use a anti-bacterial additive to the water tank reservoir once a week. Also throw out (or replace if you live in Alaska) the filter at the end of the winter season. Clean your humidifier (with the filter removed) before storing it for the summer. Otherwise you will have a much bigger and nastier job come next winter!

Watts 116011 Standard Faucet with Air Gap Black Review

(More customer reviews)This is *almost* identical to the chrome faucet which Watts includes with the WP-5 reverse osmosis kit. Hold the lever down to dispense water, or snap it into an up position to have it stay on.
Quite a bit of noise can be heard through the air gap hole while the RO tank is filling. It sounds similar to someone a few houses down spraying water from a hose into a small pond.
This faucet works well, except for one important installation caveat. Unlike the chrome faucet included with the current version of the Watts WP-5, this replacement does not include a flow restrictor. And, the flow restrictor included with the WP-5's chrome faucet doesn't fit into the red waste tube of this black faucet -- the red tube's inner diameter is too small, even though its outer diameter matches the red tube from the chrome faucet (1/4").
I found out the hard way that the flow restrictor is needed to reduce the flow of waste water from the membrane. Without it, water will go gushing down your drain via the black waste tube on this faucet -- but a good bit of water will also continuously spurt out the air gap hole (onto your counter and hopefully not far from your sink).
So, if you have a current model WP-5 which includes the newer chrome faucet that matches this one, you will need to need to cut off a length of the red tubing from the chrome faucet. Then, insert the flow restrictor (a red, plastic, spiral shaped piece) into that red tubing. Then, union it to the black faucet's red tubing using a 1/4" Watts Quick Connect -- you can get this part at the big home improvement store. Then you are good to go ahead and connect the red tubing to the manifold's drain port.
Final note: the WP-5 installation manual is decent, but has a few errors and and a few items that are out of date. This flow restrictor, for instance, was apparently built in to the manifold assembly before. With my unit, however, it was in a special baggie inside the chrome faucet box, with an attached page containing installation instructions for that part. Apparently, Watts changed the parts and install procedures, but didn't fully document it and didn't update the replacement faucets to include the required tubing inner diameter and flow restrictor part.

(More customer reviews)As someone else stated, the filter packs are a waste of money. If you only have fish in the tank, and not live plants, you need only purchase a jug of charcoal, and replace the filter media yourself (after rinsing, of course).
Further, if you have live plants in your biorb, you will need to replace the charcoal with a filter media such as SeaChem's purigen. At $18ish / 100ml, this is still far more economical than using the OEM filter packs, and you'll be using a filter media that will not rob the water of the nutrients the plants require to thrive.
As far as the sponge part of the filter, just rinse it out in old tank water. Simple, economical, and gives you a sense of accomplishment.
BTW- that overpriced bulb is a simple JC G4 bi-pin base, halogen 5w bulb. No need to pay the premium for the reef one packaging. For that matter, the jackhammer airpump can be replaced with a cheepo $7 model from wherever as well when it quits.
Hope this helps others, I've learned along the way that owning a biorb needs not be an expensive proposition!

I just bought my third one yesterday and had a note to myself to buy another one next month so that I'd have it when the current one failed. Unfortunately I was one month under in my prediction. I predicted one year 10 months and it failed at one year nine months.
I run mine 24 hours a day every day in a pond that holds around 400-500 gallons.
A filter tip that works for me after years of experimentation and does not require a lot of maintenance: put about an inch of aquarium gravel in the bottom of a medium square pond plant basket. Place the pump inside the basket and then cover it with more gravel so the gravel is to the top of the basket. Every few weeks or as needed vacuum the upper layer of gravel with a large Python aquarium siphon Python No Spill Clean and Fill. Vacuuming the gravel will restore the water flow.
