(More customer reviews)Great product. Unlike the last reviewer, I love my OCS-8. I waited months to get one also and I am very happy with it. I also own a Technovorm brewer and I bought this for use at our cabin. I like it so much the Technovorm is going to the cabin and this is moving into the main home. Like the Technovorm, this brewer is Specialty Coffee Association of America certified to brew to correct coffee temperature, that is why it needs a heavy duty power cord. You can't have a properly sized heating element without it. That's the main thing that makes both of these brewers superior to anything else you can buy other than a true commercial coffee brewer. I love the beep when the coffee done brewing. I can't tell you how many times I've started brewing coffee with my Technovorm then sat down to read the paper and whoops, an hour has gone by while my coffee is baking in the kitchen on the hot plate. The little beep is a great reminder to get it right when it's done dripping. I haven't yet decided if I like the vacuum carafe better than the hot plate when it comes to keeping the coffee hot but, I drink a lot of coffee so it usually doesn't have time to get cold in either. However, there are plus' and minus' of the Carafe of the OCS to the Technovorm. The Technovorm is clear so that is really nice when you want to know how much coffee you have left. However, it's just glass with no protective shell (Technovorm does make a unit with a vacuum carafe too but that's not what I have, it was a lot more expensive at the time). I've already shattered one technovorm and had to replace it. The OCS you can't see through so if you are sharing your beloved pot of coffee with a few people you may come up short when you weren't expecting it and have to wait for another pot to brew. However, if you do host a lot of coffee gatherings you can buy extra vacuum carafes with the OCS but with my Technovorm they wouldn't do any good since they need to sit on the hot plate. The picture doesn't do the black carafe justice, it's much nicer in person. The OCS carafe pours much better than my Technovorm. With the Technovorm if I pour too fast it runs down the side of the carafe and makes a mega-mess. You have complete control on the pour with the OCS, you really have one speed of pour no matter how much you invert the carafe and it pours into the cup, not all over the counter. When groggy in the morning, this is a huge plus. If only the carafe had a sight glass it would be perfect. Nothing however is better than being able to take the OCS carafe to the couch with you while you read the paper. Simply not possible with my glass Technovorm. I need to get up and go to the brewer every time I need a refill since it needs to sit on it's hot plate. I do find the hot plate helps to heat the Technovorm carafe up fast while the brewing feature is getting started where with the OCS, you really need to preheat the carafe first. My wife just rinses it with hot water but I will sometimes brew a cup of plain water into it first, this is the biggest drawback of an insulated carafe. I do like the little site glass on the side of the OCS brewer. The other reviewer must have really bad eyesight because there is a giant red marble thingy that floats on top that I can see from across my room. Yes I had Lasik 4 years ago and have good vision but come on, it's right there, I don't know how he couldn't see it. I think he sells Technovorm:) You do need to be careful not to get grounds into the plastic drip basket that the filter sits in with any brewer but I find this to be especially true of the OCS. It can plug up very easily and then take forever to fill the carafe. I fill my paper filter with coffee first then put it into the plastic basket. It eliminated any dripping problems I was having and it's actually much easier to fill the filter without making a mess of grounds when it's not in the plastic holder yet. Most importantly, the coffee is delicious. It brews good and hot and extracts a perfect cup of coffee every time. I love my Technovorm but for $100 less this brewer is just as good. So there you have it from a real coffee bitch, this thing is worth the money and I'd get another. I should have bought the 12 over the 8 though, I could use a few more cups out of each batch. 8 cups in manufacturer language is not real life for an American unless you really do use a 6 ounce coffee cup. Do they even make those anymore?
